Zasavje Noisefest International (ZNFI) is an international festival of experimental sound and noise, held each year in Trbovlje, at the decommissioned coal-miners complex, place called "vašhava", a washroom/changing-room, where coal-miners used to hang their clothes on a set of chains. First edition of the festival commenced in the year 2014, and each year we make an effort to continue with the festival, to preserve its story, which in our opinion is greatly important, for both slovenian cultural environment and larger positioning of the creative force that stems from our territory.
Contemporary music and contemporary creation of "sound-forms", is in a large extent, visible in the evolvement of noise aesthetics, within all the different fields of sound exploration. Under the "noise" category we have in mind various genres and subgenres of electronic music and all the blends with traditional band setups, from doom, dark ambient, noisecore, noise, power electronics, harsh noise, minimal, experimental, avant-garde, industrial, drone etc.
International festival invites and gathers local and foreign artists, so they can present their work and artistic creativity. Main focus being the creation of community, of listeners and performers and simply opening the space for connectivity among them, the main purpose being the sharing of the knowledge and enjoying the time together. The division line and the differentiation between the listener and the performer is not important here; everybody can speak and meet personally the attendants of the festival, everybody can (according to his/her interests) have an unpressurized conversation with artists or the visitors, and everybody can exchange the knowledge of the craft among each other. The contact is direct and festival endorses and maintains the friendly atmosphere.
In this year's edition, as in previous years, we have different performers coming from different parts of the world: UK, Germany, italy, Slovakia, Czech republic, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina...and of course Slovenia.
Additional attribute that gives to the festival its special mark (beside the known and less known names that we are hosting), is the specific environment where it is held. Coal-miners vašhava simply by its own visual look, evokes the dark impressions, the industrial weight of the working-class spirit and its industrial heritage, which is unmistakably a part of our history of the region. There is not a better place here for this kind of festival than its own industrial 'counterpart', materialized in the form of vašhava, where sound and space come together and intertwine, forming a completely different experience of the sound, generated within the space, while at the same time, space be(com)ing something completely different when confronted with the sound.

For all the awards you can look them up on the right side of the page, whomever supports the festival, our job is to take care of the delivery of the awards latest till September 2017 (beside those that extend to the next editions also).
Smaller awards are going to be sent prior or immediately after the festival. The rest are going to be sent till end of the September, depending on the complexity and preparations (CD/DVD of the festival, performances, whatever needs to be done to go through the material, the selection and editing of the material and final preparation for the printing).
All those who want to buy the tickets in advance, best is to donate/buy them here; you buy the ticket for the lower price and at the same time you get the selected award.
The price for one-day ticket at the arena is 15 EUR. The price for two-day ticket at the arena is 25 EUR. Advance-tickets for one day are 10 EUR, two-day tickets are 20 EUR.
For example, for #SlapMeTen/1DayTicketEntrance you get ZNFI T-shirt in your desired size (for men and women) + ZNFI badge + sticker + poster. Award is meant for one of the both days of the festival (either 2nd or 3rd June).
If you choose #20Entry/2DayTicketEntrance you get the same as above, ZNFI T-shirt/badge/sticker/poster + ZNFI pocket-opener for the beer (you can put it on your keys) + ZNFI cup. For all those who are visiting the festival for both days this award is the most practical. You donate/buy the ticket for both days at the lowest price and get additional reward.
The rest of the awards are expanding progressively with the culmination of donating 1000 EUR, titled #1000DreamsOfFunny. Not sure if anybody dares to select it?!:)
All the previous awards are included with every higher value/donation up the ladder + you get additional award for that same chosen option.
Important: The minimal goal set (1500 EUR), is intentionally set as the minimal amount we have to reach, due to the time left, but the possibility is still open to move pass the minimal amount, if we get some additional support. Without exceeded expectations we set it up as the minimal amount, and regardless of the actual outcome we Thank You in advance for your help and support.
The most viable option at hand, now and in the future, is to help each other out, and the crowd-funding campaign is the solution to help the festival continue. This is the way through which we can all get together and get things going, as all the elements of the festival, together with You, as the visitors, are crucial to make this possible.
Each year we're gonna do the same, but earlier than this year, so we can have more than enough time for promotion of the campaign.
Every donation you make is of much help to us, and we guarantee that you are going to be satisfied with the festival and everything it offers, and we're gonna do our best to ensure and maintain the good festival vibes and to deliver all the awards in a due time. We respect all the help we're gonna get and we are aware that nothing happens without the help of many people around us and the participation of the people who are there to help and who deserve utmost respect for their own good will and support, so we can make and continue with the festival, each year putting before us the same challenges.
As an organizer I Thank You and appreciate Your support, to all those who helped in the previous editions of the festival and to all those who are willing to help in this one and in the future ones. Without your help, without all the people coming to the festival, the supporters and helpers of the festival, the ZNFI crew which is stronger each year, with local and international friends, all this wouldn't be the same thing without You!
Visiting the two-day festival and sleep: whomever is worried where to sleep at the festival, don't worry! June brings warm weather and if you are thinking where to sleep, should you stay one or two days at the fest, we are inviting you to visit the festival both days; the only thing that you need is your sleeping bag as the basis to sleep on (we will have army beds scattered around the inside rooms of the vašhava + availabilty of toilets & shower), so, you don't have to worry, you can stay and enjoy the festival throughout the first weekend (2nd & 3rd June).
Just come, and enjoy your time among nice people, good vibes of noise and excellent industrial environment with nice local beer! :)
As an organizer of the festival (continuing to write in 1st person here) from the beginning of my organizational endeavour, I am trying to bring closer the noise-sound-aesthetics to the wider audience and to connect the people/artists/performers among themselves, and all the lovers of the sound/music in general, and those who are discovering this special type of sound exploration, and to bring them all together to conjoined space of exchange and activity.
The crucial point here is the personal contact you can make with the people/artists. My own comprehension and attitude is and still remains that personal contact and exchange of information/knowledge is of paramount importance, regardless of the universal availability of information via the internet. Personal and physical contact is what counts, as much as the work of the performer, and it opens the human dimension and not only impersonal & virtual presence.
Festival is based on the community and strenghtening of the friendship relations and overcoming of the physical boundaries that separate different artists, but puts them together in a common space of exchange and sharing - among artists/participants and visitors alike (dynamics are interwoven on various levels of communication among each party involved).
As an organizer I also collaborate with other organizers and clubs/spaces throughout Slovenia, with the intention to create endurable network of organizers who can collaborate and connect between each other. From the beginning of ZNFI in 2014 we organized also the pre- and post-festival events with other organizers/groups.
To name those we collaborated with:
- Klub Metulj (Bistrica ob Sotli)
- INDE (Koper)
- MMC Kibla (Maribor)
- Gustaf Pekarna (Maribor)
- Radio Študent - FM 89,3 (Ljubljana)
- Pritličje (Ljubljana)
- Cirkulacija2 (Ljubljana)
- Menza pri Koritu/Metelkova (Ljubljana)
- Klub ZAkon (Vrhnika)
- MMC Mink (Tolmin)
- MCH (Hrastnik)
(writing: Neven M. Agalma)
ZNFI offers a rich program, presenting various audio-visual artists/performers coming each year to the festival with additional program/surprises that we are offering that are happening on other rooms of the complex, from audio-video installations, photography exhibitions, chill-out room etc. We always try to make it interesting and include/curate some additional artists who can present their work in that space. This year we're gonna present also the option to visit, walk and drive with the mining carts through the mining shafts of the underground, entering through Trbovlje mining passage and exiting in Hrastnik (around 2 hours of adventure:). The voyage is planned for the saturday (2nd June) around noon.
Each year we have to take care of acquiring the basic financial means to cover the sleeping costs for the performers, and to cover the technical part of hiring PA system for the venue with all other add-ons we need for the lights etc., taking care of the food and drinks at the festival itself, and the most important thing at last, is the coverage of the travel costs that we need to take care of, for all the coming artists (coming either with a car, train or a plane). We have to find the most suitable and acceptable ways of covering all the expenses of travel to the festival and back.
There were quite a few artists who were prepared to take the travel costs upon themselves regardless, cause they wanted to come and enjoy the festival, especially when we were not quite able to cover all the expenses, or which were covered with a delay later. Some of them just didn't want anything in return, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pay/cover their expenses. Our goal is to have what is needed to cover without a problem all the costs that arise while coming to the festival. Festival is slowly growing, but due to the specificity of the festival and its genre and the duration of the festival, we don't have trillions of visitors to cover it all with just the tickets. At least not now. With each year we hope and work on it, of inviting people from all sides to come and visit the fest, and we hope that the number rises in the future, and that many friends and supporters come in larger numbers to the festival.
Festival supports and presents different (sub)genres of experimental music and it is an open type festival, inviting various quality artists (known and less known) to our industrial based zasavje region, which gives to the festival its specific characteristics. Both spirit of Zasavje region and its industrial rootedness together with the spirit of contemporary sound-art form/s, present a unique possibilty of conjoining, putting together new content and meaning - soundwise and spacewise. Vašhava as a part of the coal mining history and usage, its own phenomenality and ambiental architecture and layout that it holds, co-creates the festival's spirit, and the sound operations within the complex retroactively give completely new meaning to the space itself.
The festival is partly co-financed from local municipalities (Municipality of Hrastnik, Trbovlje and Zagorje + cultural institution Delavski dom Trbovlje; much thanks also goes to RTH, Rudnik Trbovlje Hrastnik for kind and open help in giving us the spaces to use and the whole complex, together with the vašhava). We also received help, for the first time, from Ministry of culture, Slovenia in the year 2015. No help came in the 2016 and 2017. We organize and work via the Infundibulum Association and have the right to apply to public funds, but they are usually turned down, due to various selective reasons. But the thing is that the organizers who work on the perifery usually get cut more often than the centralized spaces. But still, the help we get, covers the basic things, majority of it we have to secure from elsewhere (DIY). So, crowd funding is the best DIY way of how to continue.
Looking at it from the long term perspective, we decided to pursue alternative way and to do it via crowd-funding, and to get support from the 'below', from the people and supporters who would like to see that ZNFI continues and brings in our midst a new breeze, and that we can continue to work in that direction in the future also. Everyone who is ready to help and support the festival, gets also something in return - a fair deal.

All the help we get counts and let us do this together, to make it happen this year and the forthcoming years.
As an organizer I do appreciate all the support that we got till now, and shout-out goes to all the friends and supporters of the fest from the beginning of it, Without You this couldn't be possible.
