Last summer I have managed to fulfil my dreams of walking the Red Via Alpina route from Monte Carlo to Trieste. This epic hike took me through all the Alps in eight countries. In 107 days I have walked 2.640 km and climbed 140 km. I carried a 14kg backpack and used 5 pairs of shoes. I have made over 12.000 photos. More than 10.000 people observed the hike through social media. See more on www.facebook.com/ViaAlpinaDirect.
I compiled the adventures of the road in a travelogue film. I also added many inspirations and reflections about life and nature. I have had more than 30 presentations all over Slovenia and they greeted me with open arms everywhere. That and the positive responses that I got from people made me decide to publish a DVD and a book, so that people would be able to see this in their homes.
If you missed the live action, do not miss this opportunity to pre-order. Even for all of you that were observing the hike, there are many anecdotes, exclusive photos, videos and other unseen details.
More than 12.000 photos and many videos were created along the way. On average this means more than 100 per day. Not all of the photos have artistic value – I haven’t had the time to bother with composition and technique on all of them. Not all of the photos were made in perfect conditions regarding the light – they are photos taken in the moment and in the conditions that were present at that time and place. But I do believe that I have on several occasions managed to go beyond the mere documental photo. Most of the photos were taken on-the-go, on a moment’s notice, when a view or a detail caught my eye and I wanted to capture it. I wanted to present to the viewer what awaits them on a certain leg of Via Alpina and I believe I have succeeded.
The purpose of the book and the DVD is to bring the experience of long-distance hiking closer and to convey as close as possible all of the beauty of nature on one of the loveliest routes in the world. The DVD and the book, each with their own perspective, provide valuable insights into what a person can expect on this route. Apart from my own experience, the book also holds some information gathered from other travelers, such as tips on how to prepare for this journey.
Together, the book and the DVD form a complete overview of the Red Via Alpina route and of the profound experience of walking through all the Alps. You may read it all in one go, but you might also come back to it, when you want to check out interesting corners of the Alps or when you are in search for ideas on where to go for your next hike.
Apart from the documentary, which will take you through the experience of the tour in 67 minutes, you can find the data for use with Google Earth on the DVD.
All of the stages of the Red Via Alpina route are enriched with photos and you can load them all into Google Earth. That way you can get to know the Red Via Alpina route in a completely different level than it was previously possible (also on the official page www.via-alpina.org).
All of the stages of Via Alpina are presented in the book 107 days of the Alps in the direction of the journey (Monte Carlo -> Trieste). Photos and information about the way are intertwined with my story and my perception of the route. I have added hints and advice about how to prepare for this route to the many anecdotes and situations that occurred. To spice things up, I included a selection or responses from my followers on Facebook, where over 10.000 people regularly observed the tour.
The book and the DVD are in the final stage of preparation. The photos are processed and page breaks have been done.
We need to perform the proofreading and final corrections.
For the movie, we have to obtain the copyright from SAZAS, for the music that we used as background.
Both book and the DVD will be self-published. I did most of the work myself. I need help with proofreading and covering the cost of music copyrights, DVD production and the printing of the book.
The role of Katja? Invaluable. She acts in so many ways it is hard to list them all. During the hike she took over the role of the supply team, main motivator, endorser, main donator (family budget) … And her advice, oversight and knack for art are indispensable in the making of the book.
Both the book and the DVD will be published in SLOVENIAN language, 300 copies total. The regular sale will begin sometime in August.
You can support the project by preordering (at a very affordable price in comparison to the regular price) your copy of the book, the DVD or a set of both. You can also choose only the access to see the movie online. See the rewards for more information.
All rewards will be delivered in the 14 days following the end of the successful campaign on ADRIfund by mail to your address. All of the beneficiaries will be contacted by e-mail the ask about the delivery address.
Thank you for your support.
