By focusing on artificial intelligence and robotics children learn the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Artificial intelligence and robotics are popular and motivate for learning and they excel in giving instant feedback to the students’ planning, and building, making and resolving mistakes, and taking pride in their new creations.
With the project, we want to carry out technical days in elementary schools where each student of a certain school would get a comprehensive and exemplary experience of robotics, software programming and artificial intelligence. When all children at school experience the same thematic experience, this stimulates conversations between them. They become motivateted for common thinking and planning, as well as concrete work and learning.
At the Blue Workshop in Fram we will develop a demonstration learning center for children, young people and educators from Slovenia and the surrounding countries. We will prepare a practical experience that will make kids excited for technology and for technical and science professions. We will help teachers to create a similar experience in class. For the implementation of the project, we will develop a program that will address children from the 1st to the 9th grade, as well as their teachers. We will complete our set of didactic materials for getting to know and deepening into robotics and artificial intelligence.
The curriculum for The Blue Workshop is based on n this classic “Taxonomy of Learning Domains” -- Methods for promoting higher forms of thinking, such as analyzing, and evaluating concepts, processes, principles rather than just remembering facts and passing tests. In this context this modified Bloom taxonomy has consistently proven its value to generate creative thinking and excitement.
1. Factual
Children learn facts, memorize details, familiar with “the stuff”, labels, factual meanings, familiarize with “the stuff” they will be working with.
2. Analytic - Relations
Relationships are key. How are robotic arms, software programming, artificial intelligence, and “pure facts” of human existence related? What is the “bigger picture” that is required to imagine something new? What is the “common language” that the children will employ?
3. Creative
Given real-world needs (for example, a child who has only one arm), The Blue Workshop challenge is to bring all of these ingredients together to create NEW, creative relationships. The child with one arm needs something MORE than facts and abstract concepts. So what will the group create from “Pure facts” and “theories”? The Blue Workshop hits the mark for putting “factual” things together in new ways.
4. Entrepreneurial
Innovation solves problems. Innovation gives birth to sharing. Sharing feeds excitement, within Slovenia and beyond. Excitement provides the motivation to commercialize products and services. The Blue Workshop commitment is to turn first-hand, powerful experiential learning into real-world solutions -- from the hands of our children.
Participation in the development and operations of The Blue Workshop is designed provide the highest rate of return for workshop participants, from a simple € 5 “I like it!” to full support of € 3500. Donors will receive acknowledgement as follows.
